Education in Taiwan
Education in Taiwan, or the educational system rather said is governed by the Ministry of Education of Republic of China. The country produces students with the highest test scores in the world, specially in mathematics and science, two subjects of great deal of importance for the educational system as it views them as key for the economical growth of the country.The public educational system in Taiwan ranges from nursery all the way through university. The access to high school and university is controlled by a series of national exams. Discipline in public schools is very tight, with school uniforms being absolutely normal. Students of all levels are taught responsibilities and values. They all throughout high school they are responsible for cleaning their own classrooms and other areas of the school, and cleaning time being daily ritual.
The school year consists of two semesters. Taught from September until early February the fall semester, and the spring semester from mid February until early June.
Also, there are vocational schools. They are three-year institutions similar to normal high schools. Unlike normal high schools, they place a heavier emphasis on practical and vocational skills. Incoming students typically choose a single concentration, such as electrical engineering, civil engineering, computer science or business.
Universities and Colleges are both public and private. Private Universities have more expensive tuition than public ones. Public Universities have the support of the government. Both private and public Universities have several scholarship projects and partnerships with Universities all over the Globe, allowing foreigners to come and get their degrees in Taiwan Universities. Since there is a growing interest in the whole world to learn Chinese, and their well recognized and strong educational system, have made for education to be a 'national product'. With the influx of thousands of students every year seeking to learn the language.
